The truck is loaded!

Because the truck is so huge, it doesn't look like we've got much in there. But in fact we packed heavy. Why bring one wrench when two would work just as well? A little extra weight in the back will just equate to traction during the ice racing, right?

Now we really are ready. Less than 8 hours before we depart for the Seattle area.

We couldn't do this without support! We owe the most thanks to Joy and Kricket, our lovely wives. They have been very supportive of this crazy adventure and we couldn't do it without that. THANK YOU JOY AND KRICKET!!

And thanks to Michael and Abby, who have agreed to be extra good while we are away so that Joy and Kricket don't hate us when we return. :)

The next post will come from the road! Stay tuned.

Doug -- It is clear now that you do not listen to advice. I warned you that you would HAVE NO wife and child on your return!! Not to mention NO JOB! I also advised you to pack a crate of Hvy-Duty flash spotlights, batteries and poison for the insideous ice worms you will certainly encounter. They bore through your tires, then on into the rims when you slow or stop.
Daylight doesn't show-up north of the Artic Circle until later this month, and then for only a 3-5 hours a day. However, I imagine that if things turn bleak, you can chew on the cyanide capsule that I gave you years ago for just such a situation.
Try not to dial 911 as it will succeed only in rousing the dog teams and disturbing local drunks who mostly monitor all emergencies at that latitude.
There was a guy in our climb club who dialed 911 north of 66th parallel (IN SUMMER) -- they later found his index finger broken-off in the telephone from cold embrittlement.
However, have no fear - You can always burn one of your big tires and hunker close by. Just try not to breathe much if you decide to burn it inside the cab (of the truck) to get out of the wind
Please forward information regarding your choice of interment
(fire or ice)

coldest regards, Becker
