Ok, so this may not have been our brightest idea, but on Tuesday, we ambushed some of the Alcan officials. Here's the video. At the end, you hear the officials over the radio say "That's 20 points for all of you"... meaning that they were going to penalize us some how. I think they really enjoyed it, though, and we haven't noticed any penalties.
The Alcan 5000 Winter Rally is an endurance driving and navigation competition. The rally starts near Seattle, Washington on February 17th, 2008, and continues through February 27th, 2008, ending in Jasper, Alberta. The route goes North through Canada's Northwest Territory and above the Arctic circle before returning south again.
The event is divided into several types of competition. In the "TSD" or Time-Speed-Distance sections, a car must drive according to a set directions, reaching checkpoints in exactly a specified amount of time. Points are accrued for reaching the checkpoints too early or too late and the goal is to have zero points! There are also a few ice slaloms, where the goal is to go as fast as possible around a defined, closed course.
The Alcan 5000 is a team event, with each car having a driver and at least one navigator. Bill and Doug plan to split these duties so that each get to drive and navigate part of the time.
While we do hope to be competitive, our main goal is to have fun and enjoy the beauty of Northern Canada.

Boy, sure doesn't look like you were being coerced into throwing those snowballs.... Must be the editing, right?
I agree with Joy. Seems like there was a ringleader in the snowball event. Lucky for you the officials didn't penalize. :)
