Loading and Storing

Like I said, we got a LOT done today. The back of the truck is cavernous. Still, gear is like a fluid- It will fill any space. So, we are trying to plan to pack smart. We started by locating our spare tires in a place where they can be secured. Then, we picked a place for the heavy toolbox.

With the help of visiting friend Pat, a nice shelf was built that will strap down the tires and serve as a flat place to store some bins. There's also plenty of room for other gear.

Then, it was time to wrap up for the night. Bill headed home to tell Abby the story of "Princess Abby and Prince Michael" for the 157th time.

Here is the story of Princess Emma in the High Tower, which I tell to Abby an average of 5 times a week.

Once upon a time, in the land of Multnomah, a princess named Emma lived in house on the East side with her mommy Heather, and her daddy, Justin.

One day, while Heather and Justin were sleeping, the Evil Witch snuck into their house and tiptoed to Princess Emma's room. She threw open the door, picked up Princess Emma, and dumped her into a sack! She tied the sack, threw it over her shoulder, climbed onto her broom and flew far off to the East side of the county, to the Evil Castle on the High Hill.

The Evil Witch flew into the courtyard of the Evil Castle, got off her broom, and carried Princess Emma up the stairs to the top of the Highest Tower. At the top of the Highest Tower was a little room, with a big, iron-bound, oak door. The Evil Witch dumped Princess Emma back out of the sack and onto the floor of the little room at the top of the Highest Tower. She was allowed to eat only bread and water, and she didn't have here blankie or her binkie!

The Evil Witch locked the door with her key, and went back down the stairs, and into her room. She propped her broom in the corner, and placed the key to the little room at the top of the Highest Tower on her bedside table. The Evil Witch was tired, what with kidnapping a Princess and all, so she lay down on her bed, and went to sleep.

When Heather and Justin woke up and found Princess Emma gone, they knew just what to do. Heather picked up the phone and dialed Princess Abby. "Princess Abby, Princess Abby! You must rescue Princess Emma from the Evil Witch!" And of course, Princess Abby said she would help.

Princess Abby knew that she would need help, so she called her friend, Prince Michael. "Prince Michael, we must rescue Princess Emma from the Evil Witch! She is locked away in the little room in the Highest Tower of the Evil Castle!" And of course, Prince Michael said he would help.

Prince Michael's mommy, Joy, drove Princess Abby and Prince Michael from the West side, over the mighty Willamette River, down Powell Boulevard, and way out into East Multnomah until the arrived at the base of the High Hill. The could all see the Evil Castle on top of the hill, with the Highest Tower rising even higher.

Prince Michael and Princess Abby climbed up the High Hill to the base of the wall of the Evil Castle. Finding a rough patch in the wall, Prince Michael began to climb, hand over hand, hand over hand to the top of the wall. When he got to the top, he threw down a rope to Princess Abby, who climbed up the rope, hand over hand, hand over hand. Then Princess Abby lowered the rope down the inside of the castle wall, and she and Prince Michael slid down to the courtyard.

The courtyard was quiet as Princess Abby and Prince Michael tip-toed across it to the Evil Witch's room. While Prince Michael stayed on look out, Princess Abby snuck into the sleeping witch's room, and very quietly took the key off her bedside table. After Princess Abby came out of the witch's room, Prince Michael quietly closed the door.

Once again, they tiptoed through the quiet courtyard to the bottom of the Highest Tower. Prince Michael opened the door, and they began the long climb, step over step, step over step, to the top of the Highest Tower of the Evil Castle on the High Hill.

When they finally reached the top, there stood the iron-bound oak door to the little room. Princess Abby handed Prince Michael the key. Prince Michael slid the key into the lock and turned it. With a small creak, the door swung open to reveal Princess Emma sitting on the floor, holding her knees. When she saw Prince Michael and Princess Abby, Princess Emma jumped up and cried "Prince Michael, Princess Abby, I've missed you so much!"

Princess Abby said, "We're here to rescue you!"

So Princess Abby, Prince Michael, and Princess Emma climbed back down the stairs of the Highest Tower, step over step, step over step. Then they tip toed across the courtyard to where they had left the rope. The climbed the rope, hand over hand, hand over hand, to the top of the wall, then slid down the other side, and ran down the hill to where Joy was waiting.

Then they all went out for pizz and ice-cream at Chuck'E Cheese's.

The End.

The details change sometimes: I or my wife or Doug will drive them. Sometimes Abby is locked in the tower. Sometimes I go along on the rescue.

The one thing that never changes is the ice-cream and pizza at Chuck E Cheese's. That part Abby always adds at the end. It is especially weird since she had never been to one.
